New to NGS for Pathology: Unlock the Block for FFPE

Abstract: The fixation and embedding of tissue for the examination of cellular morphology, immunohistochemical staining and fluorescence in situ hybridization rapidly accelerated the pace of discovery in cancer research and treatment in the 20th century. While these techniques remain vital in pathology moving forward, molecular techniques of examining genomic sequence of tumor cells is joining them as a vital tool for pathologists. The adoption of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and the molecular examination of FFPE tissues hold promise for a wealth of knowledge if the challenges of working with DNA from these sample types are known and properly addressed. In this webinar, the challenges and considerations needed to work with DNA from FFPE samples starting with their extraction and continuing with their quality assessment and downstream NGS applications will be presented.
