What’s the problem?

When it comes to maintaining food safety and public confidence, the presence of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in food is a growing concern.

This concern is fueled by increasing EU legislation regarding the permitted amounts of these ‘forever chemicals’ in a wide range of food types. The levels at which PFAS must be quantified are typically in the sub-ppb range, and it is anticipated that these levels will be driven lower as new legislation emerges.

PFAS contamination in food from packaging and other contact materials further exacerbates this problem.
