The research community relies on biobanks to deliver fit-for-purpose samples
Various international institutions and governing bodies (such as ISBER and ISO) have issued recommendations and guidelines for biobanks, including biospecimen DNA and RNA quality control.
These guidelines are meant to ensure reliable research results, as experimental reproducibility remains a significant challenge:
- More than 70% of researchers have tried and failed to reproduce another scientist's experiments according to a Nature survey conducted in 20161.
- In a later survey, 86% of respondents acknowledged that poor reproducibility is a problem (Nature, 2018)2.
